Responsibilities:
The Sr Ultrasonics Engineer contributes to research and new product development of medical ultrasonic systems thereby advancing the standards of care and ensuring existing platforms support new clinical solutions via continued realization of enabling technologies. Responsibilities include senior technical contribution with knowledge of applied first principles of the physics of ultrasound and electrical engineering, utilization of advanced design, analysis, and simulation tools, and multidiscipline practical design of ultrasonic surgical instruments. Work in laboratory with biologic tissue and observations in clinical settings and the operating room are necessary.
- Works from first principles in engineering ultrasonic surgical instruments and systems
- Contributes to understanding and design of ultrasonic controllers with transducer equivalent circuit models and electrical and systems engineering
- Performs modeling, simulation, and analysis of components and systems to assess physical parameters (e.g. resonant frequency, modes of vibration, driving forces, displacements, resultant stresses, motion, etc.)
- Travels as needed to domestic and international vendor sites, company locations, and clinical settings
- Work in laboratory with biologic tissue and observations in clinical settings and the operating room are necessary
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required for his position.
- Knowledge of applied first principles of the physics of ultrasound and electrical engineering
- Knowledge of theory of ultrasound wave propagation, wave modes, and wave equations
- Demonstrated applied transducer equivalent circuit modeling
- Application of FEA (Finite Element Analysis), vibration analysis, computer based analysis and simulation tools, such as Pro/Mechanica, COSMOS, Ansys, or Abaqus, etc
- Demonstrated efforts on design of ultrasound transducers, horns, waveguides, or control systems
- Understanding of high-power or high-intensity ultrasound
- Demonstrated approach to ultrasonics R&D via delivered products with ability to provide a senior technical contribution would be consider to be a minimum of 7 years in industrial or medical ultrasonics, or combination of education and industrial experience.
- Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical or Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or Physics required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering or physics with demonstrated approach to design and delivery of new products
